Phase N/A

This study investigates the effectiveness of auricular acupressure in managing Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) symptoms among female undergraduate students. PMS is a common condition causing emotional, behavioural, and physical symptoms before menstruation. Auricular acupressure is a non-invasive method that applies pressure to specific points on the ear, and this study aims to see if it can reduce PMS symptoms compared to a sham treatment.

Participants will receive either auricular acupressure or a sham treatment for eight weeks. They will complete assessments of PMS symptoms using the Premenstrual Symptoms Screening Tool and quality of life evaluations with the WHOQOL-Bref scale at the start, after one week, and after eight weeks. The study will monitor any adverse effects during this period.

  • Who can participate: Female students aged 18 to 25 years with active menstrual cycles between 25 to 35 days, who have PMS symptoms and meet diagnostic criteria, can participate. They should not have chronic conditions, severe psychological stress, or prior knowledge of auricular acupressure.
  • Study details: Participants will either receive ear acupressure or a fake treatment. They will follow lifestyle changes to manage PMS symptoms and complete assessments at specified intervals. An inactive substance that looks like the investigational patch but does not contain any medicine will be used in the control group.
  • Study timelines: The study will last 8 weeks.
