The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of an investigational medication on individuals diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Sickle Cell Disease is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders where red blood cells become hard, sticky, and shaped like a C. This study will help understand how the investigational medication affects those living with this condition.
Participants in this study will receive either the investigational medication or a placebo. A placebo is an inactive substance that looks like the investigational medication but does not contain any medicine. The study will include regular health checks and assessments to monitor the effects of the treatment.
- Who can participate: Individuals aged 10 to 17 years with Sickle Cell Disease and a history of 2 to 10 acute clinical vaso-occlusive crises (VOC) in the past year may participate. Participants must either not be on hydroxyurea or L-glutamine or have been on a stable dose for at least 3 months.
